In 1970, he even received the Padma Shri award. Famous directors always wanted to work with him. With this, he started gaining traction for his talent. He even debuted as a chorus singer and for a character role in Seeta Ram Jananam by Pratibha films. Later, Peketi Siva Ram from HMV studios decided to record Ghanatasala’s private songs. He got his first break as a singer through All India Radio.
After he got out, he crossed paths with Samudrala Raghavacharya who suggested he try his luck in the film industry as a singer. He participated in the Quit India Movement which led him to jail for 18 months. Ghanatasala was a keen citizen of the country. He died on 11th February 1974 due to a cardiac arrest. Ghanatasala took formal music training from Patrayani Sitarama Sastry and later enrolled in Maharajah’s Government College of Music and Dance in Vijayanagram. His father died during his childhood, and he was raised by his maternal uncle. Ghanatasala was born in a village in Gudivada taluk of Krishna District.
